First Time At Mystery Village

I was at Mystery Village and did a live video. I was supposedly attending the Internations Penang event but I wasn’t there from the beginning and was there only after the event. There were still some people left from the organisation as well as those who came to see a Celtic band playing for the event, though many already left. It’s my first time at Mystery Village and so I went to check out the place as well as their food.

I was seated upstairs so just to let those of you who want to visit the place for the first time, you’ll be walking up a staircase and you might want to wear shoes/clothes that you’re comfortable walking up cement staircase with bamboo railing with open view so people sitting downstairs can see your bottom when you’re walking up and if you trip and fall on the stairs, there’s a chance of you rolling off, down into the open air space below as the bamboo railing doesn’t cover much of the stairways. The place is also kind of warm despite having air-cond and air coolers placed near tables but because it’s open air style, it’s blowing warm air with on and off cooling breeze. For those of you who like this kind of semi-open air, quaint, rustic environment set in an old building, then this is your place. Last time, I wouldn’t mind being in this kind of place to explore, not to stay for a long time though. However, now with my skin allergies, it’s definitely too hot for me and true enough, after going home, I have skin rashes and my skin broke open beneath my pants.

I was wearing Myle Enterprise’s CNY Hairband, which is customised and unique. You can see it in the video uploaded below. The hairband is also suitable for Valentine’s Day as it had a red flower with a cute little bear. Usually when you think of Valentine’s Day, you’ll think of chocolates, bears, hearts, red and those lovey dovey items. This year, Chinese New Year (CNY) is at the beginning of February and Valentine’s Day is about a week after that. Do check out the hairband at www.myleenterprise.com/shop.

I was just hanging out with those who were still there after the event. I let them try the Mystery Village’s chicken satay I had, which you can see in the video. I was told it was Batu Maung’s famous satay, which I haven’t tried before. Penang has a few satay places that are well-known and generally, all the food here is pretty much tasty if you’re talking about hawker kind of food. However, if you want to go in depth into how good the food is, texture, presentation… then I can be really fussy and criticise but on a usual day, in a usual environment, as long as I can bear it, then I’ll just let it be. The satay was slightly spicy and they don’t have a non-spicy version, which is what I think is not good as there are bound to be people like me who want to eat the non-spicy version. Their chicken meat was succulent though and the chicken was tender. I tried their Japanese food, which was salmon terriyaki set that comes with rice, salmon and coleslaw which they omitted the mayonaise upon my request. I liked it. Anyway, here’s the live video I took while I was there.

Nasi Lemak Dinner At Gurney Hotel

I went to Gurney Hotel for dinner yesterday. I tried their nasi lemak, which can be ordered from their a la carte menu. I ordered honeydew juice without ice as well.

I took a live video about my meal. Tried out YouTube’s live video. My voice is a bit soft when I see the video playback. I was using earphones when I took the video, so it sounded just nice that time. The video is a bit shaky at certain parts and video movements were also too swift when I took the live video as compared to how I would deliberately slow down for a recorded video for editing. Lighting wise, I wanted the soft lighting, so I turned off the flash but it ended up too yellowish in the video. Can be improved and I’m glad that I tried out something new (YouTube’s live video, apart from trying out the food).

Food wise, it’s nice of the hotel to change the curry chicken to fried chicken because I have allergies to chilli. I’m not sure how the allergies developed because I wasn’t allergic to chilli or spicy food last time, I just chose not to eat spicy food because it was hot. Now I can’t eat it because I will get inflammation and allergies. However, a small part of the fried chicken was still spicy. I’m not sure if they accidentally touched some chilly spices onto certain parts of the wings. With allergies told to restaurants, people preparing food have to be careful what they serve because like for those with allergies to peanut (which is more common in the US), even if they don’t eat the peanut but touch it, it might cause anaphylactic shock. I’m wondering what happens and what alternative remedy can be used if someone doesn’t carry an epi-pen around when they have anaphylactic shock.

All in all, food was alright. Honeydew juice was delicious. Comfortable environment with air conditioning and would have been much better if not for the noisy people running around. Why were they running around the hotel anyway ? I don’t think it’s suitable for people to run and shout about in the hotel, it’s not like it’s a marathon. I know people would rent hotel ballrooms or seminar rooms for team buildings or events that have games but at the open area of a hotel like the lobby and the dining area… just not appropriate. I usually don’t see this at Gurney Hotel. Perhaps you can go on a day when there are no noisy people to enjoy your food.

Christmas Video

It’s 15 days to Christmas. I made a video on Christmas for fun. I hope you’re having a good time preparing for Christmas.

This video features Carrots, the toy rabbit. I got the Lindt Chocolate Bears from Best Value Outlet (BVO) at Design Village, Penang. I don’t own the song used in the video, which is the music box version of Once Upon A December from the original soundtrack of Anastasia.
