I have to admit age is catching up with me, mentally that is. I recently find that I like listening to bossa nova music and I’m playing it non-stop on the stereo. I used to find this kind of music boring and a bit too laid back for my liking. I still like my energetic, pumping music but I’m enjoying the chilled, relaxing path.
It’s the kind of music you would normally hear at lounges, the kind where the lights are slightly dimmed and you have soft, cushy sofa and seats with pillows for you to comfortably lay your back on and your drink is served in a tall glass with some pretty garnishing at the side of the glass, then placed nicely on a glass table with a coaster beneath it. The kind of place where you will have a drink or two to chill out, like you don’t have a worry in the world, don’t even have to carry out a conversation with anyone and just listen to the music. What comes to mind is usually poshy hotel lounges.
It was on a night when I stayed up late to work on some event items customisation and I had on my earphones with some pop music playing. I like to put on music and stick my earphones into my ears so that I drown out any sounds around me. I don’t like noise especially when I’m focusing on work or creating something. I used to like working with electronic dance music on when I’m sewing and doing some creative work with cloths and sometimes I put on some classical pieces. I got bored listening to pop, so I listened to this version of “How Deep Is Your Love” by Kelly Rowland and Michael Buble. I heard this song at a wedding reception recently but didn’t know who sang it, so I searched online and found out it was these 2 singers, and I was hooked on this song. A more romantic rendition which would be suitable for weddings. I like the original “How Deep Is Your Love” song by the Bee Gees but this version has a more romantic feel to it.
So after listening to this song, I was just scrolling for the next song to play on YouTube and saw Olivia Ong‘s “A Girl Meets Bossa Nova 2” album. I heard her singing before and kinda liked it, so I decided to listen to it. That was how I found out about bossa nova genre. I’ve been listening to it while I work and also play it constantly for leisure. So relaxing.
