Happy New Year 2023 and New Year’s Eve

It’s a brand new year today. 2022 has gone, it’s 2023 now. Happy New Year 2023.πŸŽ‰ I was doing some experimenting and testing for my business products the day before and on New Year’s eve. I like to spend my time like this nowadays instead of wasting on unnecessary people and unnecessary things.

I get to learn something and I get to make money from it. I prefer to learn something myself, usually online nowadays or learn by trying it out myself. I do better like this. True creative at its best. I’m an autodidact. A new word I learnt last month – ‘autodidact’. It means “a self taught person”. So many things to learn, it’s a lifelong process.

My New Year eves in the past, I’ve had many different experiences : I’ve gone on holiday overseas, I’ve gone to other states in the same country to celebrate, I’ve stayed local but went out to public places to see the fireworks, I’ve stayed local and went to private places to celebrate, I’ve stayed home and celebrated with people, I’ve celebrated alone, I’ve also worked on New Year’s eve, and I’ve also been busy providing my business services on New Year’s eve. This year, I was experimenting on New Year’s eve. Some day I shall try doing nothing on New Year’s eve. Like lie down and do nothing. I wouldn’t want it to be lying down doing nothing because of illness or because I’m dead, but more like do nothing because it’s a choice I made. Just to savour that moment.

I ended Year 2022 with some fried rice cooked by Mummy. I’m grateful that I get to eat my Mummy’s cooking in the comfort of home. Sometimes it’s the simplest things like this that I know I must cherish because I’ll never know when it will be gone one day in the future.

Mummy's fried rice, New Year's Eve 2023

She used the wok to fry the rice. It came out looking like how fried rice will usually look like in a wok. Somehow, the creative side of me just want to make it look less normal and look nicer.πŸ˜† So I made a heart shape in the middle of the rice.

Previously, I did one with a face on it.

I wonder if anyone noticed the nose part. I placed 2 pieces of chicken meat along with 2 dices of carrots there. Sometimes, it’s in the small details.πŸ˜‰ The meat is the nostrils. The carrots… I suppose it’s the nostril holes or maybe nostril rings?🀣 As long as it’s not snort.🀒 I shall just call it the nostril bits.

This is like when you open the cover to your food and find a nice surprise. Instead of just plain looking fried rice, you discover a unique piece of art (click on the link to see the GIF file if it didn’t autoplay) :

P/s : I now create GIFs and use them. GIFs are nothing new to many but I didn’t create them previously but now I can. It’s always fun to learn something new.πŸ˜ƒ

As I age, somehow I find it so peaceful being away from crowds. My introvert side has taken over for some time now. I’m not sure when my extrovert side will come out again, if ever. So it has been pleasant to just stay in my own room on New Year’s eve.

I actually get to enjoy the view of fireworks from my room when I looked out the window. I don’t even need to go out and the displays come to me. Money come to me, that one I want more of.πŸ€‘πŸ€‘πŸ€‘πŸ’²πŸ’²πŸ’² At my age, I would rather have money. I feel not much joy in going out on purpose to see fireworks – if it’s there and I happen to see it, then I might just watch it. Gone are the days of teenage years and beginning of adult years when I’ll specially make a trip out with friends or family just to view the fireworks. The traffic jam, human traffic jam, the crowds, the pollution, the noise pollution, the germs – urgh, I feel yuckers thinking of being in this situation, especially with the recent pandemic. Enduring all these just to see a few minutes of fireworks display – no. I don’t know why I enjoyed doing thisΒ previously, to endure such jams and pollution just to see something that doesn’t even last. If you’re close to where the fireworks are released, it stinks as well of gunfire powder burningπŸŽ‡ besides getting deaf from the booming sound of fireworks being released.🎧 Sometimes I think fireworks are a waste of money. They’re just burning money. It’s ok, I’ll just sit in the comfort of somewhere quiet without crowds and watch the fireworks from my gadget screen when I want to. I can choose to mute it, fast forward or just stop it whenever I want and all in my own control. 😜

There were a few short fireworks display in Penang.πŸŽ† I’m not sure if it’s privately done or what because apparently there were news saying that there will not be fireworks display which were the yearly usual in Penang, Malaysia before the Covid-19 pandemic. I suppose fireworks is something that will always fascinate human beings, so there’ll bound to be people who’ll always want to watch it and whoever is in this fireworks business can still survive.

My New Year 2023 begins and just like how I would like to start my first meal of the day, I had breakfast. Simple and fast to make but healthy breakfast.β™₯️

For dinner, I had bak kut teh with rice and vegetables. Mummy cooked them. Very delicious. She used chicken to make the bak kut teh (direct translation from Hokkien dialect: “meat bone tea”). Usually they use pork meat and bones to make the bak kut teh. If chicken meat is used, I’ve heard it being called “chi kut teh” or “kay kut teh”. My New Year eve and New Year dining meals have been pleasant because it’s all the food that are suitable for me. Good improvement from previous situations of unsuitable food.

I included my exercise regime and I did it slightly longer than my usual daily version. It was about 45 minutes and with some dance aerobics movements to a few songs that were popular in my younger days. Those songs probably belong to the oldies section now.πŸ˜‚ I would get muscle aches if I overdo my exercising, so I have to rest more after that.

All in all, I would say I have enjoyed my New Year’s eve and New Year day. I hope it will be a good year with great wealth, good health and peacefulness.πŸ₯³
